Gut microbiome changes in Atlantic cod exposed to dispersed crude oil

Dispersed crude oil has known toxic effects to overall fish health. The response of the microbial community within fish guts, as well as how dysbiosis influences fish health is not well understood, especially in marine fish species. To better understand the effect of dispersed crude oil on microbial compositions, 16S metagenomics and associated metratranscriptomics, in addition to transcriptomics were conducted in juvenile Atlantic cod gut and feces, respectively, following a 1-, 3-, 7-, or 28-day exposure period.
