Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) State Law Database

The Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) State Law Database is a multiyear database of U.S. state laws related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Using policy surveillance methods, a multidisciplinary team of public health researchers and legal experts developed the database by coding the presence or absence of 30 relevant laws across 9 legal domains (relationship recognition, sexual orientation-related antidiscrimination, gender identity-related antidiscrimination, school settings, hate crimes, sodomy, family formation and parenting, HIV/AIDS, denial of services) for each U.S. state and D.C. in every year from 1996 through 2016.
