Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is the third commonly produced oilseed crop worldwide and first in Russia. Despite the high genetic and phenotypic diversity specific for sunflower, some agronomically important traits (ability to restore fertility, herbicide resistance, oleic acid content, tocopherol composition, etc.) lack the natural diversity. Thus the optimal way to find genetic associations for these traits is to perform genetic mapping based on experimental crosses derived from contrast parents. Here we performed high-throughput genotyping by sequencing (GBS) to construct a genetic map and perform association mapping for two sunflower populations derived from genetically and phenotypically contrast parents developed in Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK).
