The study aimed to build on previous work and further characterize biofilm communities forming under conditions analogous to those theorized to be present in an intermediate level waste repository (ILW). By looking at multiple sites this work aims to be the first to compare the microbial communities which have the potential to form biofilm on a ILW relevant surface. By comparing different sites of similar geochemistry but of different ages, a greater understanding into the evolution of microbial communities capable of survival under these conditions is expected to be gained.
