2023 Special Achievement

Sailboat Bend Preserve was originally created in 2005, with the northside addition in 2010. After years of neglect, it was impenetrable with invasive plants. Starting in 2019 the neighborhood resident volunteers initiated the resurrection of the preserve by removing mountains of human debris and invasive plant masses to create a series of walking paths, enabling a replanting of a diverse list of native species. Through the efforts of dedicated resident volunteers, a plethora of native birds, including swallow tailed kites, 4 varieties of herons, osprey, warblers and even bats have moved in!
