An unstructured-grid Finite-Volume Community Ocean Model (FVCOM) is one-way coupled to a 3-km resolution North Atlantic HYCOM model to study the predictability and accuracy of Loop Current System. Special attention was paid to the simulation of the Loop Current Frontal Eddy (LCFE) events. The FVCOM-LCFE model domain covered the eastern Gulf of Mexico and northern part of the Caribbean near the Yucatan Strait. It had variable horizontal resolution, 3-km at the outer edge, 750-m in the Loop Current proper and LCFE area, 1.5-km in between 3-km and 750-m regions. Vertically, there are 81 uniform sigma layers. Simulation period was from 2010-03-20 to 2010-05-25. The simulation output was in NetCDF format. Similar results are available for 2009-04-11 to 2009-05-09 in U2.x857.000:0002 (https://doi.org/10.7266/f0qgx7q6).
