Edwardsiella sp. NBRC 12716 genome sequencing and assembly

The Edwardsiella genus includes several Gram-negative species that are pathogenic to both farmed and wild fish, and these pathogenic species often share similar host ranges. In the past, this has made their classification challenging, and several fish isolates collected and preserved in biological repositories still lack proper categorization. Through long read DNA sequencing and conducting genomic analysis of these past isolates, their classification can be facilitated, and valuable insights into the short-term evolution of the pathogenic species can be unveiled. More complete genomes also add as a valuable resource in constructing an Edwardsiella pan genome.
