A survey of fifteen to eighteen year old drug users was conducted in Sydney to investigate their drug use, drug attitudes and AIDS awareness in 1986. The drugs of concern in this study are amphetamines, cocaine, hallucinogens, designer drugs, tranquilizers, barbiturates, opioids and inhalants. Use of marijuana or alcohol alone did not qualify for inclusion in the study. The study covered: frequency of drug use; reasons for taking drugs; motivations and difficulties stopping, maintaining or increasing drug use; drug use by peers; ease of getting drugs; attitudes to drug use; the possibility of acquiring AIDS. Background variables include: age, sex, occupation, residence.
