Clinical or host-associated KPC-producing Enterobacter cloacae Complex

The Enterobacter genus is among the main Enterobacteriaceae causing hospital acquired infections. Given to the intrinsic resistance to several beta-lactams and the constant evolution of the antibiotic resistance profile due plasmid mobility, infections by Enterobacter spp. are considered difficult to treat. The aim of this study was characterize isolates of the Enterobacter cloacae complex (EcC) originated from patients admitted to a tertiary hospital in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
