Clinical features and skin microbiome of tinea scrotum: an observational study of 113 cases in China

Tinea is a common fungal infectious disease worldwide, including tinea corporis, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea manuum, onychomycosis, tinea capitis and tinea faciei. Although scrotum was regarded as rarely involved area for tinea in traditional view, case reports have provided definitive evidence of it. Male genital fungal infections have received considerable attention recently. To our knowledge, previously only few cases or case series were published on tinea scrotum and its corresponding agents, and there is no large sample size study about the epidemiology and skin microbiome of tinea scrotum. The clinical characteristics and pathogenic agents of tinea scrotum remain poorly understood. Therefore, we performed a prospective observational study with large sample size to investigate the clinical, mycological features and microbiome of tinea scrotum.
