Google Street View Neighborhood Summary

Using Geographical Information System (GIS), we constructed a road network dataset to capture image data from every street intersection in the United States. We will utilize Google Street View’s Application Programming Interface (API) to download four images per location with angel views at 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees, thus permitting fuller capture of the environment. We have currently collected and processed 16 million street view images accounting for about 67% of all street intersections in the United States. Images were drawn from all 50 states. We created built environment indicators (trees, car, highway, rural area, and grassland) at the county level.
