Histone H3K9me is a hallmark of constitutive heterochromatin in most of eukaryotes. Schizosaccharomyces pombe is one of excellent organisms to study the mechanism of heterochromatin formation. To analyze the mechanism of heterochromatin inheritance, genome-wide H3K4me3 and H3K9me2 localization were determined in spores of Schizosaccharomyces pombe by chromatin immunoprecipitation.
