资源简介:
This report presents the results of Phase I and II archaeological investigations on the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR) in Polk and Highlands counties, Florida. This work was conducted by Geo-Marine, Inc. (GMI), under a contract (DACA63-99-D-0010, Delivery Orders 059, 060 and 065) with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, acting on behalf of the Air Combat Command (ACC) and APAFR. The purpose of this study is to provide the APAFR with data for use in the management of its cultural resources in partial fulfillment of its obligations under the National Historic Preservation Act and other applicable cultural resources legislation. The project resulted in the discovery of 7 prehistoric archaeological sites, none of which are considered eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). NRHP eligibility testing was conducted on 18 archaeological sites (11 prehistoric, 5 historic, and 2 sites with both historic and prehistoric components). Nine of these sites are recommended as eligible for inclusion in the NRHP, eight are recommended as ineligible for inclusion, while the NRHP status of one site was not able to be established.
