Microbiome study of dietary therapy on chronic enteritis in a canine model

The microbiome has been implicated in the initiation and persistence of inflammatory bowel disease. Despite the fact that diet is widely recognized as one of the most potent modulators of microbiome composition and function, and that dietary intervention is the first-line therapy for treating pediatric Crohn’s disease, the mechanisms underlying diet-induced remission from enteritis remain poorly understood. Here we leverage a naturally-occurring canine model of chronic enteritis that exhibits a robust response to nutritional therapy, and investigate the relationship between diet, the microbiome, and clinical remission.
