Reducing meat consumptions is therefore imperative to mitigate climate change. Meat attachment has emerged as one of the main predictors of intention to reduce meat consumption when tested alongside the theory of planned behaviour. However, its relationship to actual behaviour remains unclear. This study aimed to test whether all dimensions of meat attachment contribute to the explanation of intention and decision to reduce meat consumption as well as actual meat consumption behaviour. It also tested whether meat attachment explains intention, decision, and behaviour when other variables known to be associated with meat consumption are also considered. One hundred and sixty-five participants recruited through Prolific completed the study online. The results showed that the composite hedonism-dependence dimension of meat attachment was the only dimension associated with intention, decision, and meat consumption behaviour, and it remained significant when other variables were added to the equations. The affinity dimension predicted intention and decision, but not behaviour. The entitlement dimension did not predict any of the outcome variables. The findings are discussed in terms of the role of meat attachment in predicting meat consumption behaviour compared to other variables known to be associated with meat consumption.the theory of planned behaviour.
