The Qaidam Basin is located in the northeastern section of the Plateau of Tibet, occupying the northwestern part of Qinghai province, western China. The basin is almost entirely an area of interior drainage, with rivers discharging either into Koko Nor or into one of the numerous salt lakes and saline swamps in the basin’s central area, such as Tuosu, Dasugan, Gahai, Gasikule and Xiaochaidan.
