Long-Read PacBio HiFi Metagenomic Profiling of Anthropogenically Polluted Wetland Waters in Tshirela and Sharpeville Townships, South Africa

This project comprises long-read metagenomic sequences generated from surface water samples collected at five anthropogenically impacted wetland sites in Tshirela and Sharpeville Townships, South Africa. Each sampling location represents a distinct pollution source, including industrial effluents, sewage overflow, informal settlement runoff, greywater discharge, and landfill leachate. Environmental DNA (eDNA) was extracted from water samples and sequenced using the PacBio Sequel II platform to generate high-fidelity (HiFi) long reads. The dataset enables taxonomic and functional profiling of microbial communities associated with diverse pollution gradients and supports investigations into xenobiotic degradation, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental adaptation mechanisms.
