Dialogues with AI: do chatbots improve logical thinking and selective attention?

This study aims to explore the impact of using AI chatbots on students' logical thinking and selective attention. A pilot study was conducted using a pretest and posttest control group design with two experimental and one control group. During the semester, students in the experimental groups used chatbots to complete class tasks with or without discussion, while students in the control group worked without chatbots. Data were collected using the Amthauer test, the Munsterberg test and the questionnaire. The results indicate that using chatbots has an impact on students’ cognitive processes. However, the direction of this impact depends on the degree of their rational use.
