These data relate to an investigation into the energetic cost of gradient running in running shoes incorporating advanced footwear technology, in comparison to a traditional running shoe. The data are gross metabolic rate (rate of oxygen consumption) in two running shoe conditions - Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% shoe (VF) and Nike ZoomX Streakfly shoe (SF). The running economy benefit of VF relative to SF decreased with increasing incline.
