This collection is a set of images of specimens held at the Australian National Fish Collection (ANFC).The ANFC is a resource for many fields of science, providing a record of diversity prior to, and during recent large-scale human impacts, such as fishing and climate change.Our specimens provide the physical evidence of a species occurring in a specific place at a specific time. We hold more than 160,000 fish specimens representing 3,700 species.Scientists from around the world can view specimen images online or visit the collection and borrow material for examination and to make comparisons with fauna from other regions. This may lead to the recognition and description of new species, as well as an improved understanding of where species occur now and where they have occurred in the past.Lineage: This dataset is one of a series holding images from the Australian National Fish Collection. These images were taken through ongoing imaging of the physical specimen collection, and this grouping of images is arbitrary based on the time period the images were taken, it is not a comprehensive list of all the specimens available in a taxon.As such, this dataset may not include all images from a particular taxon and we recommend the specimen image file search which can be used to search across the image datasets to find all images from a specific taxon.本数据集为澳大利亚国家鱼类标本馆（Australian National Fish Collection, ANFC）所藏标本的图像合集。 该标本馆是多学科科研的重要资源，其馆藏记录了渔业、气候变化等近代大规模人类活动影响前后的生物多样性状况。 本馆馆藏标本为某一物种在特定时间、特定区域出现的实体佐证，目前共藏有代表3700个物种的16万余件鱼类标本。 全球各地的科研人员均可在线查看标本图像，或亲临本馆借阅标本开展研究，并与其他区域的动物区系进行比对。此类工作可助力新物种的发现与定名，同时增进人们对物种当前和历史分布范围的认知。 数据集谱系说明：本数据集为澳大利亚国家鱼类标本馆图像合集系列之一。所有图像均通过对实体馆藏标本的持续拍摄获取，本图像组仅按拍摄时间周期进行随机划分，并非某一分类单元下全部馆藏标本的完整图像列表。 因此，本数据集未必涵盖某一分类单元下的全部图像。我们建议使用标本图像文件检索工具，该工具可跨所有图像数据集进行搜索，以获取特定分类单元的全部相关图像。
