Swanson's “Brain Maps: Structure of the Rat Brain” (3rd edition) spatially registered to the Waxholm Space atlas of the rat brain

The dataset contains location metadata defining the spatial registration of the 3rd edition of “Brain Maps: Structure of the Rat Brain” (Swanson, 2004) to the MRI/DTI image volume of the Waxholm Space atlas of the rat brain (Version 1.01; RRID:SCR017124). The stereotaxic atlas by Swanson contains 73 revised coronal diagrams from an adult Sprague-Dawley rat. The schematic diagram images were spatially registered to the Waxholm Space atlas of the Sprague-Dawley rat brain. The dataset consists of .png images of the atlas plates and an accompanying .xml file with spatial metadata that can be opened in the QuickNII tool (RRID:SCR016854) to view overlay images of the two atlases. The procedure for this is described in the data descriptor file. The dataset can be used to inspect how regions delineated in the two atlases spatially relate to each other.
