“…I should add that we went boating & bathing & often got stuck & had to push off just so! (top left).”Portrait of three men on a sailing vessel pushing off the sand bank with oars. Lt. Irvine was on board the S.S. Salamis which was transporting troops to Portuguese East Africa and had stopped over at Lumbo. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
