This study present the indoor and outdoor active air microbiome over four seasons in eight different mechanically ventilated commercial buildings. This study also analyzed the seasonal, geographic and building function variations of the indoor and outdoor airborne microbiome, and the dispersal characteristics of the indoor and outdoor airborne microbiome. A positive correlation was further found between relative abundances of the active and total taxa in the respective indoor and outdoor environments. At the taxon-level, we found that the low-abundant members tended to have higher relative metabolic activity than the high-abundant members over the course of a year.
