NRS-1157 | Register of Convict ships arrived in Port Jackson

The first volume, distinguishing between male and female convict ships, shows: date of arrival; name of ship; whence sailed; number of convicts - embarked, died or escaped during voyage, and landed; and the annual standing numbers allocated to the prisoners. Although it was probably meant to be a register of the numbers given the prisoners off various vessels, it also serves as an index to arrival dates. An occasional reference to a Col. Sec. In-letter is also given. It also includes vessels from places other than England and Ireland. The second volume notes as well as the above: number of free men, women and children; master's name; date of certificate; surgeon; date of bills and certificates; and ship surgeon to return home by. It does not mention the annual standing numbers. This volume also has in the back a section noting vessels sailing from Sydney to London direct from January to April 1838: name of vessel, when sailed, where bound and whether accommodation arranged. 17 Jan 1829-Jan 1837, 2 Jan 1838-21 Nov 1840 (4/7101.1-.2). 2 vols.
