This study investigated gut microbiota and glucose uptake in insulin-sensitive organs in acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) mice long-term orally supplemented with high-carbohydrate diet alongside heat-treated Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis CECT 8145 (BPL1-HT), its by-products lipoteichoic acid (LTA), or the insulin-sensitizing agent alpha-lipoic acid (alpha-LA).
