Marrow as Origin, Incubator and Reservoir: A Systems Oncology Model of Breast Cancer

This article explores the hypothesis that the bone marrow serves as the primary origin and regulatory hub for systemic cancer processes, particularly in hormone-sensitive malignancies such as breast cancer. The marrow-centric model represents a paradigm shift in cancer biology. By framing malignancy as a failure of progenitor regulation and niche integrity rather than isolated mutation, it offers new avenues for prevention, detection and therapy. Systems-oriented, terrain-preserving interventions—particularly hormone and immune-stabilizing agents—may be key to managing indolent or preclinical disease.
