Summary Near-global river altimetric rating curves (ARC) derived from Hydroweb.next water surface elevation (WSE) data (downloaded globally in early 2025) and MeanDRS reference discharge (Collins et al., 2024; https://doi.org/10.1038/s41561-024-01421-5) using non-parametric stochastic quantile mapping approach (adapted from Elmi et al., 2021). This dataset (in .pkl or .xlsx format) allows computing discharge directly from WSE data at 20,000+ MERIT-Basins river reaches, corresponding to 20,000+ ongoing virtual stations reported in Hydroweb.next (https://hydroweb.next.theia-land.fr/). Validation metrics against GRDC (grdc.bafg.de/) in situ gauges are provided at approximately 1400 virtual stations. The Choose_river_ARC_hydroweb_ope_MeanDRS.xlsx is an optional file describing all the available river locations by basin and river name, with virtual station identifier, lat/lon, satellite mission, upstream area, performance of the ARC, mean rated discharge, a quality flag, and validation numbers (where available). The corresponding github repo to produce discharge from Hydroweb.next WSE data and these rating curves can be accessed at: https://github.com/acerbelaud/Non-Parametric-Stochastic-Quantile-Mapping-NPQM-adaptation.
