San Bernard River - Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Intersection Flow Measurements

This dataset facilitates replication for data presented in: Intended vs unintended consequences of modifying coastal river channels.

These data show observed directions and magnitudes of water flux at the intersection between the San Bernard and GIWW during calm-weather conditions. The GIWW was shown to the main conduit for flow of the system during sampling. Thus, the San Bernard River contributes discharge to GIWW flow, leading to reduced velocities in the terminal limb of the channel downstream of the intersection.

Furthermore, historical aerial images are included in chronological order with their data source and year indicated in the filename. These images are sorted into three categories: a) the evolution of the coupled Brazos-San Bernard coastal river system, b) the evolution of the San Bernard River mouth after the 2010 dredging project, and c) the San Bernard River mouth dynamics after Hurricane Harvey. Associated shapefiles of the San Bernard channel pathways, river mouth positions, and Brazos River delta features are also included.

Contains Matlab processing script for data processing and plotting a snapshot of water fluxes in an intersection-adjusted coordinate system, along with the raw source data collected from surfboard mounted ADCP profiler.
