Aves - The National Natural History Collections

The bird collection of the Hebrew University was founded by Prof. Israel Aharoni (1882 - 1946), one of the first researchers at the Hebrew University, who worked during the first half of the twentieth century throughout the Middle East region. The collection includes a unique source of rare species of birds from the Middle East, including extinct species from the region and subspecies extinct from the world. The collection contains about 2,000 items which were collected mainly in two main periods: 1) the beginning of the twentieth century, and 2) the end of the sixties and the beginning of the seventies of the twentieth century. We will be happy to host researchers who wish to study the birds in the collection.
