Cycling accidents in Italy 2022-2023

This dataset is one of the outcomes of the research “THE ATLAS OF THE DEAD (and badly injured) CYCLISTS IN ITALY / ATLANTE ITALIANO DEI MORTI (e dei feriti gravi) IN BICICLETTA”, one of the pilot projects currently underway at the Competence Center on Antifragile Territories (CRAFT) of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU), Politecnico di Milano (see: https://craft.dastu.polimi.it/it/antifragility-lab/1). The primary data source is the ISTAT Rilevazione degli incidenti stradali con lesioni a persone (microdata for public use). This dataset contains a collection of road accidents that occurred in Italy from 2022 to 2023 at the municipality level, with cycling accidents identified separately within it. Cycling accidents were identified and flagged as those in which at least one of the vehicles involved in the accident was a Velocipede (a generic term for pedal-powered bicycles) or an Electric bicycle. The research analyzed data on cycling accidents in each Italian municipality and across higher-level geographic and administrative aggregations, including provinces, regions, and the national territory.
