During the Ice Station POLarstern (ISPOL) field experiment in the western Weddell Sea in early Austral Summer 2004-2005, an array of drifting buoys was deployed. This array consisted of 26 buoys placed at roughly 12km apart covering a triangular region with side length 70km, and was deployed for about 30 days. The array was designed to investigate sea ice drift and deformation on scales between the atmosphere and oceanic meso-scale.
