BAT021 - Batta - Morphosyntactic data

This dataset contains elicited morphosyntactic data (including possessive and adjectival subject-marking paradigms) from Batta with Ema Sawoy (born 1970), a native speaker of Batta. Morphosyntactic features elicited include mode markers; checks on animacy distinctions in possessive constructions; mode markers; and clausal co-ordination The possessed noun in the possessive paradigm is 'mouth'; the subject-marking paradigm was elicited for the adjective 'to be tall'. The session was recorded on 18 December 2019, in Yenenas village (Batanta island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). This dataset relates to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Grant from the University of Edinburgh.
