Archaeological protected areas in Schleswig-Holstein

Data set on protected areas for the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein with the exception of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. The data series includes data on all archaeological cultural monuments (aKD) that are currently sufficiently known in terms of their extent, conservation and scientific quality and on all archaeological World Heritage Sites and Excavation Protected Areas (GSG) designated as protected zones. The archaeological cultural monuments are listed according to §§ 8 (1) and 24 DSchG SH 2015 *, the protected zones according to §§ 10 and 24 DSchG SH 2015 in a list of monuments. The lists of monuments and the maps of protected areas based on them are not exhaustive, as the discovery of previously hidden and thus not yet known archaeological cultural monuments can be expected at any time. For these, there is a statutory reporting obligation (§ 15(1) DSchG SH 2015). In principle, legal protection does not depend on the entry in the list of monuments and the resulting mapping (§ 8(1) DSchG SH 2015), but applies to all objects that meet the criteria of an archaeological cultural monument (§ 2(2) DSchG SH 2015). All projects and measures that directly affect or may affect archaeological cultural monuments or that are likely to significantly impair the impression of a cultural monument by changing the environment and all measures that impair or endanger excavation protection areas and world heritage sites require the participation of the State Archaeological Office of Schleswig-Holstein or the lower monument protection authorities in accordance with §§ 4 and 12 DSchG SH 2015.
