Share of people working from home in Italy 2021, by household size

The COVID-19 pandemic, which first hit Italy in late February 2020, had a massive impact on life in the country. The measures adopted by the Italian government to control the contagion pushed many businesses to stop or radically scale down their activities. According to a recent survey, around 7.3 million people were working from home as of April 2021, corresponding to 31.6 percent of the total working population in Italy. When taking into account only couples without children, however, this figure jumped to 38.8 percent. On the other hand, only one out of four households composed by just one person was working from home.
