Genomic DNA sequencing analysis of a methylotrophic bacterium, Methylophilus sp. OH31 was demonstrated to understand the genetic background of its methanol utilization ability. Since methanol is an important intermediate of bacterial methane degradation, functional analysis of the methanol degradation gene also helps to understand the methane cycle in the natural environment.
