Additional file 2: Supplementary Table 1: Alpha diversity across the data set. Three measures of the alpha-diversity (observed diversity, Chao1 Index and Shannon Index) across the data set, representing the diversity of species within each sample. For each sample, random subsamples of 5000 OTUs were taken for each sample and alpha-diversity scores were calculated. Alpha diversity scores are shown by mean +/− standard deviation over 10 random subsamples.
