In our study, we tested a previously trained AI system’s ability to accurately identify elephants and thus open gates to allow for elephant movement between areas. To do this, we conducted experiments with semi-tame elephants, other herbivores (blue wildebeest, ostrich), and non-elephant objects (stuffed elephant toys, vehicles, vehicles covered with a grey car cover- with and without artificial ears). What we found was that the AI system could correctly identify the elephants (both lone individuals and groups) and could correctly identify the vehicles and stuffed toys as not being elephants. However, it was unable to determine whether the vehicles covered with the grey car cover (both with and without ears), and wildebeest were elephants or not. Moreover, it consistently misidentified ostrich as elephants.
本研究中,我们测试了一款预训练人工智能系统(AI system)精准识别大象的能力,以触发闸门开启,实现大象在不同区域间的移动。为此,我们使用半驯化大象、其他草食动物(蓝角马、鸵鸟)以及非大象类物体(大象毛绒玩具、普通车辆、覆盖灰色车罩的车辆——分别加装与未加装人工耳)开展了实验。实验结果显示,该人工智能系统能够正确识别大象(包括单独个体与群体),并可准确将普通车辆与大象毛绒玩具判定为非大象目标。然而,该系统无法准确判断覆盖灰色车罩的车辆(分别加装与未加装人工耳)以及蓝角马是否为大象。此外,该系统始终会将鸵鸟误判为大象。
