The draft genome sequence of the γ-proteobacterium A. venetianus RAG-1T, a strain isolated from seawater near a beach (Tel Baruch, Israel) and which was shown to be able both to degrade hydrocarbon molecules (such as n-alkanes) and to synthesize an extracellular anionic lipoheteropolysaccharide (emulsan) involved in the capture and transport of the carbon sources to the cell.
