GEOLAB-TA_SLIDAM

This repository contains data gathered during the Geolab Transnational Access project SLIDAM (Suction and LIquefaction in stability of tailing DAMs). The project aims to improve the understanding of liquefiable tailing materials, the overall stability of tailing dams in both saturated and unsaturated conditions, and particularly the transition from slide to flow behaviour in tailings. The data was collected during the testing campaign, carried out at TU Delft Geotechnical Centrifuge, in the framework of Geolab project. Seven tailing embankment models were tested, at different loading conditions, for saturated (submerged) and unsaturated tailings. In this project is noteworthy the post-failure behaviour of the experiments, especially those that exhibited a slide to flow transition. In these cases, burst-like features, similar to miniature volcanoes, were observed consistently. This process of localized, pressurized, upward flow, may contribute in explaining the extremely long runouts observed in tailing dam failures.
