Whole genome sequencing of the bacteriome-associated symbionts of Diaphorina cf. continua

Diaphorina cf. continua is a close relative of the Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri. D. citri has two species of bacteriome-associated symbionts, Candidatus Carsonella ruddii and Ca. Profftella armatura. Whereas Carsonella is a typical nutritional symbiont, Profftella is shown to be an unprecedented type of toxin-producing defensive symbiont unusually sharing organelle-like features with nutritional symbionts. As a first step to reveal evolutionary histories of these symbionts, genomes of their counterparts in D. cf. continua were analyzed.
