NRS-1186 | List of books transferred to the Principal Superintendent of Convicts

This volume lists books, or registers, transferred from the Colonial Secretary's Office to the Principal Superintendent of Convicts which were sent to Mr. Hely on 1st June 1828. This followed a reorganisation of the duties of the Colonial Secretary with the transfer of additional duties relating to convict administration, such as the preparation of certificates of the expiration of sentences, being undertaken by the Principal Superintendent of Convicts. (1)The first section lists convict indents from 1788 to 1824 transferred and is arranged under the headings: Title of Book, Name of Vessel, Arrived in Colony, Males, Females and Remarks. The last indent listed as transferred is dated 15 July 1824.The second section lists registers of absolute pardons, conditional pardons, certificates of freedom, tickets of leave and exemptions from government labor.Only the first six pages of the volume have been used.Endnote1.
