Qki depletion downregulated endolysosomal biosynthesis and diminished degradation of stemness-related membrane receptors in glioma stem cells (GSCs), consequently promoting GSC stemness and gliomagenesis. Besides regulating the synthesis of endolysosomal system, which is essential for lipid uptake, we have shown that Qki regulates de novo biosynthesis of various lipid species, particularly cholesterol, unsaturated FAs (UFAs), and long chain FAs in oligodendrocytes and lens epithelial cells. Therefore, we reasoned that QKI might be also important for regulating lipid metabolism in glioma cells.
