Marine carbon cycle simulations for DMS CCN from algae prior to Cryogenian Snowball Earth events

Geological evidence indicates that the Cryogenian Period (720 to 635 million years ago) witnessed two globally glaciated Snowball Earth events -- marking the end of a 1.5-billion-year-long period of climatic stability. One hypothesis links the cooling to the diversification and spread of eukaryotic algae about 800--750 million years ago, causing higher emissions of organic cloud condensation nuclei and thus a larger and brighter cloud cover. With these simulations, we investigate this hypothesis using a coupled climate model that includes an ocean biogeochemistry module, allowing fully interactive simulations and the investigation of marine carbon cycle feedbacks. The data presented here is the model output on which the results described in the corresponding manuscript are based on.
