Model VSP Wavefields and Results of Solving Inverse Dynamic Problems for a Viscoelastic Medium

This record contains synthetic vertical seismic profiling (VSP) wavefields and the corresponding results of solving inverse dynamic coefficient problems for a one-dimensional viscoelastic medium. The wavefields were generated by finite-difference modelling for the Maxwell viscoelastic model and are provided in SEG-Y format. Three test models are included: a slope model, a sinusoidal model, and a layered model of compressional-wave velocity and stress relaxation time. For each test, the SEG-Y trace samples contain the calculated wavefield, while the trace headers contain receiver depth, model parameters, arrival time, and the parameters recovered by the inverse solution. The accompanying PDF describes the mathematical formulation, the parameters of forward modelling and inverse recovery, the numerical test models, the SEG-Y trace-header mapping, graphical results, and quantitative error estimates. The inverse problem is solved in a locally homogeneous approximation using the available space-time wavefield. At the first stage, the elastic parameter and compressional-wave velocity are recovered. At the second stage, the stress relaxation time is determined using the velocity obtained at the first stage.
