Genome-wide expression profiling was used to study transcriptional regulation of nucleotide metabolism in Arabidopsis seedlings in response to inhibition of de novo pryrimidine synthesis and supplementation with the pyrimdine nucleoside uridine. Changes in pyrimidine availability resulted in coordinated changes in expression of genes encoding enzymes of pyrimdine and purine salvaging and catabolism pathways, as well as nucleobase transporters. This study provides new insights into the molecular control of plant nucleotide metabolism and complements functional studies with mutants and metabolic labeling approaches.
