In this work, root, nodule and bulk soil samples were collected from six peanut (Arachis hypogaea) cultivars grown on soils sampled along a rainfall gradient in the Senegalese peanut basin. For each cultivar and sampling site, we analyzed the nodule-associated bacterial and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) communities, as well as the root-associated AMF, in comparison with bulk soil microbiomes using Illumina Miseq. Our aim was to identify the most related N2-finxing bacteria, plant growth promoting bacteria and AMF species for each cultivar and sampling area to better select elite corresponding strains as inoculants for peanut cultivation.
