Bidirectional communication mechanisms between root and shoot organs are likely key to orchestrate stress responses and ensure plant survival. Here we show that Arabidopsis thalianaresponses to microbial root commensals and light are interconnected along a microbiota-root-shoot axis. Microbiota and light manipulation experiments in a gnotobiotic system revealed that low photosynthetically active radiations (LP) perceived by leaves induce host-dependent and long-distance modulation of root bacterial, but not fungal or oomycetal communities.
