This paper presents the electrical design and radiofrequency (RF) performance of the Venus Synthetic Aperture Radar (VenSAR) antenna feed. The VenSAR antenna is a reflectarray illuminated by two orthogonal polarization waveguide-fed horns at the focal distance of 2.75 m. The operational frequency of this feed is 3.2 GHz (S-band) with a bandwidth of 100 MHz and a gain of 18 dBi for both polarizations. The elevation sidelobe levels at 2.75 m are lower than -20 dB over the bandwidth. The feed taper referenced to the feed nearfield beam peak is -8.5±1 dB at ±54.3° in the azimuth plane, and -10.5±1.5 dB at ±6.4° in the elevation plane. The performance of the feed meets requirements over the temperature range of -113° C to 160° C. The design and numerical analyses of the VenSAR feed are carried out in Ansys HFSS using the Finite-Element Method (FEM).
