Postitorvea soitettiin yleensä ratsain liikkuvan postiljoonin tai postivaunujen saapumisen tai lähtemisen merkiksi. Postitorven merkitys käyttöesineenä väheni 1800-luvulla, mutta postin symbolina torvi säilyy edelleen. Torvi on annettu lahjaksi kapteeni Carl Korsmanille 1800-luvun lopulla. Korsmanin omistama höyrylaiva "Express" aloitti postinkuljetuksen talvisin Hangon ja Tukholman välillä 1870-luvulla. A post horn was used to signal the arrival or departure of a mounted postman or mail coach. The use of the post horn declined during the 19th century but it is still a symbol of the post. This horn is a gift from the Finnish postal administration to captain Carl Korsman and dates from the late 19th century.
