Dataset of a collaborative ring trial for the detection of cow, sheep and goat milk in dairy samples by real-time PCR targeting mitochondrial DNA

A collaborative ring trial using 12 authentic dairy samples was conducted to validate four real-time PCR methods targeting mitochondrial DNA from cattle (Rentsch et al. 2013), sheep, goat and total mammalian DNA in dairy samples. Milk for direct consumption, yoghurt, Picodon type cheese and Feta type cheese samples were produced in a research dairy from sheep and goat milk with 1 - 33.3 % admixtures of cow milk. Further samples were taken from different production stages resulting in a total of 50 samples that were additionally analysed by a single laboratory. The research data include the real-time PCR results measured as cycles of quantification (Cq-) values of DNA standards and samples of the collaborative ring trial and the single laboratory analysis.
